Empowering you to make the safety switch

Building a culture of everyday safety starts here #BDSafetySwitch

What is the safety switch?

We understand the pressures and challenges that you might be under each day. Maintaining optimum levels of safety during this daily situation can be a challenge and as a result errors and accidents may occur. These errors and accidents have the potential to put you and your patients at risk, incur significant cost and are a further strain on your already strained resources.

The safety switch is all about acknowledging that safety is not a single product you use or action you make but a culture; something that supports you in making better choices each and every day, to protect patients and your team.

Putting protection at the centre

From preparation through to delivery, there might be many opportunities for error and injury. Accidental back flow and free flow, needlestick injuries 1,2, drug contamination, and misconnection errors 3,4 are just a few risks that threaten healthcare professionals and patients alike.

Non-validated syringes can lead to inaccurate delivery and lack of flow continuity, which can cause delayed therapy, over- or under-infusion, unstable blood pressure and more.5,6,7

Intravenous (IV) therapy carries high risk of delivering undesired materials into patients’ blood streams – 42% of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses (36 surveyed) name particulate contamination as a major concern.8

The time to switch is now

We have designed a range of products with integrated safety features, so that you can have one less worry on your mind at every step.

BD Plastipak™ syringes are validated for use on most major infusion pumps – which can help minimise false alarms and care disruptions,5,9 while our BD Eclipse™ needle features a safety shield to minimise needlestick injuries.10

BD® TIVA sets have integrated technologies to help prevent disconnections, misconnections, and accidental backflow or siphonage. All of which helps deliver a more rapid and smooth recovery profile in comparison to volatile anaesthesia.11,12
