Sample collection and accurate analysis comes with many clinical, technical and operational challenges

Biomarker stabilisation is key

Standardised processes are important to ensure biomarker specimen stability and preserve the integrity of biomarker specimens. It is no secret that sample collection and accurate analysis comes with many clinical, technical and operational challenges, including:

  • Sample stability
  • Sample storage and transport
  • Data reproducibility
  • Processing time
  • Supply reliability
  • Biohazard exposure risks

At BD, our range of cell and biomarker stabilisation tubes are intended to maintain sample quality from collection, through transport and storage, all the way to final analysis to optimise your workflow.1

Downstream applications

Exploring biomarkers from discovery to clinical diagnosis

The BD Vacutainer® family of products offers cell and biomarker preservation to support generation of accurate and reproducible data across a number of molecular, proteomic, and cellular applications. Discover how cell and biomarker preservation tubes can optimise the preanalytical workflow in your field of research.

Proteomics

Your choice of blood tube impacts the accuracy of measuring GLP-1 and glucagon.2

RNA stabilisation

The ability to stabilise, analyse and manipulate ex vivo gene expression as if it is still in the body is essential to the development of new gene therapies.

RNA research

Protection of RNA from enzymatic degradation can provide a snapshot of the gene expression profile at the time of blood collection, leading to advancements in genomics research.

Oncology research

RNA quickly loses its structural integrity once removed from the cell. Capturing a snapshot of RNA from cancer cells relies on sample stabilisation at the point of collection.

Circulating cell-free DNA

Circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) is a key biomarker for non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and liquid biopsy and can provide a breadth of information to researchers and clinicians.

Immunology

Blood mononuclear cells, such as lymphocytes, monocytes and dendritic cells are key to understanding elements of an effective immune response.

Research studies
Sensitivity of liquid biopsy assay

Circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) is used in a number of diagnostic assays which require specified preanalytical workflows to facilitate correct and reliable results. This research article by Thorsten Voss, Andrea Ullius, Maike Schönborn, and Uwe Oelmüller establishes a blueprint for a test procedure to verify and validate a liquid biopsy workflow.

BD Vacutainer CPT™ tubes

BD Vacutainer CPT™ tubes Mononuclear Cell Preparation Tubes provide simple, one-step isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from whole blood in a primary blood collection tube.
The fully closed, one-tube processing provides a unified collection and separation step (in comparison to FICOLL™ gradient methods), helping to streamline your sample processing from preparation to post-centrifugation.

  • Removes possible variations in plasma preparations
  • Reduces blood exposure for laboratory staff
  • Reduces waiting times during centrifugation with brakes enabled

Following centrifugation, the patented gel barrier provides clear cell separation with no aliquoting or additional consumables. Cells are stable in the BD CPT™ Tube allowing centrifuged samples to be safely transported.

PAXgene® Blood RNA Tubes

RNA is inherently less stable than DNA. RNA transcript levels can change within minutes of blood collection resulting in gene expression levels that are not representative of the real RNA transcript profile.
PAXgene® Blood RNA Tubes give you the ability to capture more accurate RNA profiles by stabilising RNA at the time of collection. This single tube integrates collection, stabilisation transport, and storage to enhance your preanalytical blood RNA workflow and minimise unpredictability associated with RNA processing. Specimens can then be stored at room temperature (18 to 25°C) for up to 3 days
