Dave Hickey kicked off the "BD Innovation Celebration" where he presented an overview of the Diagnostic Systems BD strategy as well as introduced the innovative and in some cases first public showings of new BD solutions for the clinical laboratory. During this presentation he unveiled a suite of innovation and encouraged delegates to view these platforms at the booth during ECCMID, these included:
BD SynapsysTM microbiology informatics solution, which provides laboratories with secure connectivity across instruments and locations. The new easy-to-use, browser-based application will help streamline workflows, automate manual processes, and facilitate on-demand actionable insights. Together these capabilities will enable laboratories to improve productivity, simplify compliance, and ultimately get results to clinicians more efficiently.
BD KiestraTM ID/AST modules will be new additions to the BD KiestraTM solution that automate the processing steps for bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing using the BD Bruker MALDI and BD Phoenix systems. These unique laboratory automation solutions use a single organism to ensure that the same bacteria is used in both tests.
If not, you should be. It is predicted that by 2050, AMR will be the leading cause of death world-wide⁵. BD is a major collaborator in the fight against AMR, developing vital equipment and engaging in health and policy development. During the 28th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, we hosted a Symposium on AMR, with talks from experts in the field. For those unable to attend, have a look at the highlights and summary.
